London Marathon Foundation appoints new trustee

Robert Dufton has joined our Board of Trustees, and will be Chair of our Grants Committee from January 2026.

We’re delighted to welcome Robert Dufton to the Board of Trustees at the London Marathon Foundation.

As one of the UK’s major charitable funders of sport and physical activity, the Foundation has awarded more than £114 million to 1,750 projects in London and across the UK – helping people lead more active, healthier lives.

Robert brings a wealth of experience in high-impact philanthropy and grantmaking, alongside a deep personal commitment to physical activity and wellbeing.

He is currently Chief Executive of Moorfields Eye Charity, the UK’s leading funder dedicated to improving eye health and the lives of people affected by sight loss through innovation in research, education and care. Previously, he served as Director (CEO) of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, where he led the transformation of one of the UK’s largest family-led foundations and its funding programmes.

With his strong background in grantmaking, Robert will also take on the role of Chair of the Foundation’s Grants Committee from January 2026.

Outside of his professional career, Robert is a passionate advocate for inclusive and accessible physical activity. He is a founder member and past president of Not So Trad, the UK’s first LGBTQ+ climbing club, Chair of Climb Out, and an active member and volunteer with London Frontrunners, his local athletics club.

Robert said: “The London Marathon is known worldwide for inspiring people to take part in physical activity, and I’m so excited to be joining the London Marathon Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

“I’m passionate about increasing diversity and participation in physical activity – to support the health and wellbeing of people across the UK, especially children and young people. Through the Foundation’s grantmaking and partnership working, we can help communities across the UK enjoy more active, healthier lives.”

Sir Rodney Walker, Chair of the London Marathon Foundation, said: “We’ve made some fantastic appointments to our Board this year – now including Robert Dufton – and I know I speak for all Trustees when I say we’re thrilled to have him join us.

“His passion for our mission, combined with his extensive grantmaking experience, will be invaluable in supporting our funding strategy as we continue to fund impactful initiatives and partnerships that inspire activity across the UK.”
